Walking through Target, driving through a pretty neighborhood, watching Pushing Daisies {when it was on} all over the place! Do you have a favorite magazine, website or person who inspires you?
I love that about you! Have you read that true story about the brothers who lived in a tree trunk in New England over 100 years ago? I'll have to find it. The tree died but another one grew there and it has a hollow trunk too!
I second Target, as I'm a big fan. I also love anything vintage so I find many inspirations at antique stores & vintage shops. I'm also a huge fan of Domino magazine, seems like almost everything in it I love.
I love my magazines--Cottage Living and Country Home. I get a few others but those are my favs! Also, whenever I go to yard sales I get inspired. I pick stuff up and think what I can do with it. Of course, it usually doesn't happen for several months weeks later....
Hi Alyssa! Truth be told, I don't decorate for myself much either (people pay me to help them with their houses, but I just don't spend much time on my own). With that said, when I do decorate, I do it for next to no money and spend as little time as possible on it. Most everything in my house was given to me, or found through a consignment shop, thrift store, garage sale or discount store! And I am not very crafty or patient, so you won't catch me painting or sewing to decorate either. I like instant gratification!
I know most bloggers seem to be decorating every day, but I only get serious about decorating when I am moving, or when we are going to have a party (which is a couple of times a year)!! Then I get serious and we work our tails off on some new project! LOL!
The other thing we do to save money is we buy gifts for each other that are actually for the house! Instead of buying jewelry or clothes or electronics, etc, we spend it on something new for our decor. After 21 years of marriage, we have been able to get quite a few things that way!
Ah, remember the days that a new vacuum would have been an insulting gift? Now, it is more like, "Oh, please, please, please, will Santa get me a Kitchenaid Stand Mixer? I've been such a good girl!"
Target chic! IKEA "European Design House"! WalMart "for the masses decorating", and finally, "Honey, can you build me a "this"?" Copy, copy, copy! It is not how much you spend, it is how you put it together!
I'm way late, but I love this question. Such great ideas from everyone. For me, most of my ideas come from magazines. BHG (regular and specials), all the various Country "Something" and Southern "Something" magazines. The advertisements can be as much inspiration as the articles.
I also love looking through catalogues - Pottery Barn, Ballard, Home Interiors, Land of Nod - for ideas. Even clothing catalogues give me ideas about fabric and colors.
