What's Your Favorite All-Around Cleaner?

Remember My Big Fat Greek Wedding? The dad used Windex on everything! I was copycatting this--love me some Windex--when I read a rumor that Merry Maids housekeepers use a spray bottle with 4 drops of Dawn to clean everything. (I checked out their site and they do indeed recommend dishwashing liquid on their tips list.) So I mixed up a batch and gave it a whirl. Suprisingly, the diluted Dawn worked on everything(mirrors-glass-tile-wood-porcelain-whatever the tub is made of), with a better shine than Windex and no caustic smell like 409. Check out more tips on today's post.

Thanks for the tip! Making a Target run today--I'll look for it.

Found it! Yes--totally crazy-fun-confusing bottle! It smells delicious--more melted candy cane than peppermint schnapps. Can't wait to try it--thanks again for the recommendation!

You can find Dr. Bronners inside Super Target. It is in the same section as Burts Bees.

Dawn, vinegar, and baking soda. Between the three you can clean just about anything.

Do you use Dawn for stains on clothes? Any tips for getting out chocolate stains? That's the one stain that I just can't seem to get out.

I've had success using Biz on chocolate stains. Agitate the clothes in cold water with a big scoop of Biz and soak overnight. If the stain is still there in the morning, wait it out until afternoon and check again. Biz recently changed their formula--added oxy-something to compete with Oxiclean I'm guessing--and it doesn't clean as well as it used to with half a scoop so I use a full measure now. Biz is expensive though--about $8 a box.
I'll start a discussion in the Homekeepers Group to see if anybody else knows of a good method for removing chocolate stains.

I second the disinfecting wipes, too. But, for another cleanser that I love....Clorox Disinfecting Kitchen Cleaner. I love the citrus clean smell. It cuts through grease, makes the countertops shine, and does a good job in the bathroom, too.

Lately I'm loving Charlie's Soap All Purpose cleaner (the laundry powder is AWESOME too, never had such clean towels! You can find it at Whole Foods) and Mrs Meyer's Geranium cleaner, since it smells so pretty.

Charlie's Soap is my new favorite and their website has free shipping. The laundry soap works wonders. I may try that Dawn tip.. thanks for sharing.

Clorox Anywhere for Hard Surfaces, but I too am looking forward to trying new things. Thanks to all you have supplied such good info!!! I love the dawn idea!

I have recently converted to Vinegar and water. I am amazed at how clean and shiny it makes everything. I can't believe I've spent so much money in the past for cleaning stuff. I am loving it.
