HI Chondra. I don't really care for the school district I am in. I pulled Dakota out to home school him for 2 years and now he is back in school. We shall see how it goes. If things don't go well I will send him to a different school that is 10 miles from here.

Hi Stacie & Welcome! As you can see, we are not the busiest group-but we're here!
My name is Chondra and I live in Austin Texas. Originally from NY/NJ area, I moved here to Central Texas 3 yrs ago. We started out in Killeen, but recently moved (a week ago today) to Austin, because the Killeen school system was not meeting our needs and a lot of our daughter's therapies and or doctors are in Austin. Eliana is 6 with a diagnosis of Down Syndrome. Mostly though she has profound speech and language delays and emerging behavior issues. One day/moment at a time though! Looking forward to getting to know you as well!

Hi there! My name is Lisa and I have 5 children. My two oldest are already out of the home, married and have a child of their own. My youngest twins are 9 and one of them was born with down syndrome and AV Canal heart defect which was repaired. He also has many other health issues and don't even get me started on potty training! Can't wait to get to know all of you!

hi special need sista's... i just wanted to pop by and let you know that about a month ago i started a second blog called "the playground princess" which is about building fully inclusive playgrounds which i did for 10 years following creating the first one in our state and one of the first in the country... i'd love to have you follow me and i have a linking button to a weekly post i am going to do called "wonderful playground wednesday" which i hope will continue to bring awareness to the need for play for all children! i'd love to have you join in the fun w/that and pick up that button and let me know if you have a fully inclusive playground in your neighborhood, town, or even state. lol http://theplaygroundprincess.blogspot.com/

HI there!

I'm Susan. I have 2 children. My daughter (oldest) is my special needs child. She was born Preemie due to a rare birth defect called Congential Cylothorax.
Because of being a preemie she also got retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) She sees but is considered Legally Blind. She is 8 and doing wonderfully well. She reads and writes at grade level. I've been through much with her. I hope that I can help someone else...be a support and maybe get some support too!!!

Hi my name is Cat. I have a little boy who is 3 1/2 and is Speech/language Impaired. I am excited to find a place where I am not the only one struggling through hard times with a great kid.

Anyone have any potty training tips for a kid who just won't get it??
Jeanne J. Comment by Jeanne J. on March 7, 2009 at 9:34pm
Hello all! My name is Jeanne, and I am new to the group. I have 4 kids, boy-girl-boy-girl, and our 3rd child, Henry, has Down Syndrome. He is 5 years old, and, as well as our other 3, is an absolute joy, most of the time! I've read some of your comments below, and feel I'm in the same boat with some of you and the potty training right now! Yikes! Please, someone tell me that we'll get there someday! I look forward to reading how everyone is doing, and willingly will accept any tips for helping Henry be independent in the bathroom!

Hi everyone! My name is Chondra and I live in Central Texas. I am originally from the NY/NJ area so living here is a bit of a shocker! I have two beautiful girls - 11 & 5 the youngest has Down Syndrome. Fortunately prior to her birth I had been working in the Special Needs arena for several years as a teaching assistant and was somewhat prepared(and I say somewhat very lightly) She is about one year behind her peers - she is in inclusion Pre-K right now. She also has speech & language delays (pronunciation & intelligibility) as well as insulin resistance which we recently discovered. She is extremely strong willed which makes for quite an adventure daily for both her teachers & me! We are working on potty training most unsuccessfully so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I am looking forward to getting to know you all
Maren Comment by Maren on November 17, 2008 at 10:12am
Thanks for the suggestion, lisa, I am so going to get that book! Anything to slow that kids nose down. We're so proud of him, he just started walking full time this last few weeks. He turned 5 in Sept so we've been waiting a long time for this. Now, hopefully, speech...
