According to our local Police Chief as quoted in our local fish wrapper (aka: the weekly paper) "You can buy all the fireworks you want...you just can't set them off in the state of Ohio." Ok, that makes sense. Purchasing said fireworks is legal. Shooting them off is not. You would have to take them over the border into a state that allows you to shoot them off.
So why is it legal to sell them in the first place? Why not just eliminate the selling part and make the whole thing illegal? Not that…

Today was the first day of Girl Scout camp. Erin did quite well - especially since her surgery was 4 days ago. We made a few concessions for her such as I brought a small camp chair for her as opposed to a sit-upon; she could tell us if she was too tired to play a game etc.
Anyway, several people found out about her surgery and almost all commented "What a trooper! She still came to camp after that?" So when it came time to make our nametags in Arts and Crafts Erin chose "TROOPER" as her "camp…

Girlie's surgery on Thursday went well. We got home late Friday afternoon and Daddy and Nutboy had some surprises for Girlie: Roses and a new Webkinz!
One of the funnier things at the hospital was when the Physical Therapist (PT) had her get up to walk for the first time. She brought Girlie a little red walker to use. So Girlie is using it and looks at me and says "Momma, I look like the grammas where you work!" (I work at a retirement community - so, yeah, she did!)
She has done very well bei…

Yesterday was Girlie's last day of school - she had walked into that building as a Kindergardener and she walked out the building as a First Grader (covered in chocolate ice cream drips!) NutBoy's last day was the day before when he walked out a Fourth Grader.
I reminded them as we drove to a celebratory/meeting lunch at McDonald's (the meeting part was for Girl Scout camp next week) that we didn't have to get up early tomorrow, that we had no place to go, that we could sleep late. This was imp…

My dd, Girlie, has congenital scoliosis. That means she was born with it. On Thursday, she will have her third expansion surgery of the VEPTR
(www.veptr.com) rods that were placed in her back 3 years ago. These expansions will continue until she reaches physical maturity - which for a girl is generally somewhere between 14 and 16 years of age. My Girlie is 6. The expansions are typically done every 4-6 months as the child grows. She is unusual in that it has be…

Our 6 year old daughter has taken to "blaming me" for her mistakes in judgements by saying "Well you made my brain in your tummy!"
So I thought about that as we watched our 9 year old son accept an award at the 3rd and 4th grade award ceremony at school on Friday. He was awarded "Outstanding Achievement for the Entire Year." What this means is he embodied the three "A's" that our school teaches all the children from the day they start there: Attendance, Attitude, and Academics. Not every child…

So I worked the 3rd shift last night (11 - 8 am) not something I usually do, but the person who does that shift's sister was in ICU so I picked it up to help out.
I come home to find DH getting kiddos ready for bus which by the time I get home is set to arrive in 8.4735 minutes. NutBoy is ready - he just needs me to put the letter he wrote to his teacher in the "#1 Teacher" frame so he can give it to her today (last day of school). Girlie is still in her nightgown with pancake syrup (see the…

Can someone explain to me how 2 tbls of pancake syrup can coat the entire breakfast table, a chair, and a child?? My kids love pancakes, waffles, and french toast sticks - I hate the fact that the syrup gets everywhere! I even put it in those little cups like restaurants do.
I wish a gallon of paint could cover so well in one coat!

We are moving in August. I am decorating challanged. My apartment is very bland. I haven't put much love into this place because I hate it. When we move into our house I want it to be a place the kids want to come home to. Not Florence Henderson like but close.
I have some ideas for my daughters room but that's about it. I want to make our house cozy. Since I don't want to buy brand new furniture I was going to look around the thrift stores for pieces I like. I found a new couch and love seat y…

A couple of days ago, I was super anxious about the impending arrival of our new little one. Now I just feel overwhelmingly calm and peaceful. In spite of not yet having packed our bag for the hospital, in spite of not having the new carseat installed in our car, I'm chillin'. The new carseat is for our older daughter anyway, so as long as we're not planning on going anywhere (I'm certainly not planning on it until my girly bits are no longer tender) with both children, we'll work it out. But it…

I don't know if all my dear friends are aware, but I occasionally sew in addition to my other crafty and cooking pursuits. A couple of months ago I started a swap on my blog where strangers all signed up and agreed to make an apron for a complete stranger and receive one in return. It was a huge hit! Just over 55 women crafted flirty-guaranteed-to-make-you-smile aprons for strangers and received little packages of love in return.
So, do you sew at all? Are you enchanted, like I am, by the cu… Continue

It's something that is so much a part of me. For 33+ years now, I've tried to please everyone around me, because if they're not happy, then I am all but incapable of being happy. I considered turning down my husband's marriage proposal, because he was planning on moving to Australia and I didn't want to disappoint my family by moving so far away. I developed some form of an eating disorder in my struggles to lose weight for military service instead of just getting out because I had to prove to t…

We all do it, I'm sure. Then again, maybe it's just me. I have a blog, that I keep for my family and friends overseas. And my friends here, who don't see me very often. The thing is, I have to censor myself, because I feel like I can't be the 'real' me. I have to fit into this mold of who I 'should' be, and that means I can't post about real, honest stuff, and how I feel about said real, honest stuff. Like how sick to death I am of peeing myself everytime I sneeze. Or how I find flatulence reall…

Below is a warning I hope you take to heart.
You've heard about people who have been abducted and had their
kidneys removed by black-market organ thieves. Well, this kind of
cruel theft is happening with other body parts as well!
My thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years ago. I
went to sleep and woke up with someone else's thighs. It was just
that quick. The replacements had the texture of cooked oatmeal.
Whose thighs were these and what happened to mine? I spent the

I find that it's important to be a "courteous" coupon user. What do I mean by that? Read on...
I find that so many people are rude and mean at grocery stores, particularly when it comes to the way people treat the workers. I work at a church and I personally don't like it when people call and are being extremely rude and inconsiderate. However, when the people who come to visit are super nice (a plus is when they give you hugs, like the little kids), it's such a joy to help them out!

Ok, so I've technically been a mommy for a year now (over a year if you count when I was pregnant, which should count, right?), but just recently I've begun to really grasp what being a mommy is all about for me. Someone else depends on me to do EVERYTHING for her from preparing meals, changing diapers, washing clothes, sharing my love of reading with her, plain just interacting and playing, etc. - this is a huge responsibility which I…

So we have been cooped up in our house all winter, seriously since novemberish, so we have not had too many opportunities to meet the neighbors in our new development. As soon as its a little sunny and not such a nip in the air, people come out of thier houses, still bundled up, rubbing their eyes and take in some of the fresh air (i swear we are all hibernating bears), let the little guys run around and expell the energy that has been stored up.
