Blissfully Domestic Living

The Magazine & Community all for you!

As I wrote in my last article, I have been "using" local honey for the past couple of weeks in the hopes that it helps relieve some of my allergy symptoms. So far, so good!

Usually I throw a dollop in some tea, or simply spread some on bread. As delicious as it is, this is starting to get a bit boring.

Any suggestions as to how I can spice up my daily honey intake?

Thanks!

My husband isn't a big honey eater so he just takes it like you would meds, he just takes a big spoon full lol. So if you don't feel like putting it in or on something you could just do that.

Other than that do you bake? You could put it in your baked goods.

Heck, I'd put it on muffins, toast, etc. if I loved it that much. =)

You know, I have been wondering if cooking the honey would alter the proteins and make them ineffective. I need to research that!

I missed the honey/allergy post. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hey Christine! I have a question about honey and babies. I know that you can't feed honey to a baby under one, but what about baked goods that have honey in them? Are they also a no-no?

I recenly bought honey graham crackers for my 10 month old. She's really into feeding herself right now, so it sounded like a good snack. But then I read the box -honey.

Is it safe to let her have them now? Or do I eat the box myself? hee hee

Despite other health benefits, honey is an unsafe food for any infant. HONEY SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN TO CHILDREN YOUNGER THAN 12 MONTHS.

Heather, I just did a quick search...the problem with honey for infants is infant botulism. Cooked products with honey shouldn't be a problem because the botulism bacteria would die.

I have a whole wheat bread recipe that uses 1/3 cup honey for each loaf. Let me know if you want it. Glad to hear the allergy symptoms are diminishing.
