The Magazine & Community all for you!

A long long time ago in a land far away, Mary Kay had a lip balm that came in a jar (anyone remember that?). I LOVED that stuff. Then they moved to a squeeze tube and I feel like it's runny (blech).

I am now using Bobbi Brown's Lip Balm SPF 15 and altho I think it's like $18 a tin mine has lasted almost a year (and there's some left in it - so my guess is it will last a full year) - but I'm getting to where I need to start thinking about either getting another tin of Bobbi Brown or branching out into new territory and maybe even save a couple bucks *gasp* (don't tell my husband it's possible to get a lip balm for 99 cents, deal?).

I don't like anything that tastes (nothing minty, nothing sweet, just plain).

Any ideas????

I agree the MK balm in the jar was much better than the tube. I still have 4 or 5 jars left! tee-hee! I use the tube for touch ups during the day when I'm out and about. But I miss the jar. To be honest, the MK balm is the only balm that doesn't leave my lips dry an hour later so reapplication is only necessary after I eat.
I've heard great things about Burt's Bees. ;)

I just wrote a review about a reasonable new Aveeno lip balm over at Divine Caroline:

It's good stuff!

I know you don't like flavored stuff but I gotta give a shout out to the Burt's Bees cherry flavored balm. I also have to say that Bath and Body Works has a great pineapple flavored gloss - Mmmmm.

My favorite was Trader Joe's Virtuoso lip balm. Now that we don't live by a Trader Joe's (six hours is too far!), I ask relatives to ship me some or I have my husband bring it back when he goes on business trips. It comes in a three pack for $2 or so. I use it every single night at bedtime and we don't have chapped lips. It is spearmint flavor, though, so it wouldn't work for you.

I like Palmer's brand of lip balm, with cocoa butter. I have some on now, and it doesn't have a flavor

HUGE shout out to Raven Works (Carissa Larsen) on etsy. I just got my lip balms today (she sent me 7) and they RAWK! They are moisturizing but not greasy AND they have NO FLAVA! Yippeeeee!!!!!

i just started using blistex complete moisture... it's great! my lips were soooo chapped after all the bad weather, but they are on the mend, now!
also, beauticontrol makes a great lip exfoliator/balm combo that works wonders with absolutely no taste!

p.s.
the beauticontrol product is called lipappeel. it's a 2 piece set. also you can buy just lip balm in a stick format. kinda pricey, but well worth the $!

I wish MK would make a lip balm stick--if they did that, I think they could recapture the texture of what was in the jar. Maybe I should email them! :P

They have the lip protector, which is an "option" albeit not a very good option. I use that in the summer so I don't get sun blisters (it has spf) from worshipping the sun so much. =)

Yes. The new lip protector is nicer than the old one. I don't know which one you have. They came out with a new one last year and I use that a lot in the summer and it does have a smoother, silkier texture than the older version. But it still doesn't give quite the moisture that the balm does. Yes, I think I'll send an email suggestion. :)
