SHOPPING: What will you only buy on sale?

I touched on this in this article on Blissfully Domestic:

http://www.blissfullydomestic.com/2008/08/what-summer-fas.html

But, what things do you refuse to pay retail for?

Anything you will not cheap out on?

For me - I will only buy tank tops on sale. Same for novelty shoes and bags and underwear!

I will not, however, go cheap on jeans. I'm buying the jeans that fit the best - regardless of cost.

I'll only buy purses on sale. It's kind of silly now that I think about it, because once I have a purse, I use it every day until it wears out, which can be a year or more. So that's the kind of item I theoretically could splurge on. But purses can be so expensive these days, and it really is easy to find nice ones on sale, the bargain huntress in me won't let me pay full price.

I like to splurge on classic shoes that I know I'll be wearing for a long time. For example, my plain black pumps are probably some of the most expensive shoes in my closet, but they're comfortable and I'll wear them forever.

That's a good point about classic shoes. I'm in desperate need of a good pair of black and brown shoes right now - because my cheap ones only last through a few months of constant wear.

Maybe I need to suck it up and look a little higher end. ;-)

Purses. I wait till they go to 40% or 50% off at macys. :) And I only buy one brand of purse anymore, so that really limits me.

Pretty much all clothing I only buy on sale -- except for jeans. Even then, I wont pay more than $50 max for jeans. I prefer $30. :)

I buy most of my clothes only on sale. It is only on very rare occasions when I must have an item of clothing right then & cannot wait for a sale. It's not really a matter of cheaping out, just delaying the purchase. I only buy really good quality boots because my feet are weird, but I only buy them on sale. I've gotten all zen about it the past few years. Yes I love the $75 blue sweater & it fits perfectly & looks great on me. But $75 is more than I am comfortable paying, so I'll wait until they are offering $20 off with a $75 purchase. If the blue sweater is gone, then I wasn't meant to have it.

I also only buy purses on sale. They are a definite trend item for me and I like to switch them around frequently. Finding a $100+ purse on sale in August for less than $25 is SO COOL!

On the flip side, I paid retail a for an interview outfit. 99% of my wardrobe is from Target or the 60% sale at Talbots, but this outfit was worth every penny and fits like a dream.

Personally, I rarely pay full price - that's how I roll! But when it comes to designer dresses, there's no way that its getting into my closet without there having been a HUGE sale to put it there.

I don't skimp on shoes, though! That's sacrilegious.

Ralph Lauren clothes. If they are not on clearance, I don't buy them

I will spend full price on handbags.

I will not pay retail for ANYTHING! I get all twitchy when I do!

Shoes are one thing I will usually pay full price for as I have a narrow foot and a high arch (double whammy suckage!)

I typically buy ALL my clothes and my girls' clothes AND my husband's clothes on sale.

I refuse to pay retail for anything lately.

My goal is to never pay full price for anything. There's nothing like getting a fab item at a fab price! :)

I rarely pay retail for anything. If the item is something classic that I will use for a very long time and that I love love love and something that rarely goes on sale, I might pay retail. I have to walk away from it and see how long it lingers in my head before I decide if it is worth paying full price.
